Super absorbent polymer is a new type of functional polymer material jointly developed by Japan and the United States. This paper briefly introduces the performance test of SAP powder.
Measuring the liquid absorption rate of super absorbent polymer is a relatively simple process. Just use a straw to inhale a small amount of ionic water, add it to a 2000 ml beaker, then weigh 0.6 g of resin with a tray balance, and add the resin to the beaker. After an hour, use 2000 black nylon bags to repeatedly filter the excess ionic water in the beaker until each ionic water is filtered clean. According to the same method, inhale 3000 ml of sodium chloride solution with a straw, add it to a 4000 ml beaker, then weigh 2.3 g of resin with a tray balance, and add the resin to the beaker. After half an hour, use 3000 black nylon bags to repeatedly filter the excess ionic water in the beaker until each ionic water is filtered clean. Observe the above two experiments and get a formula for liquid absorption rate:
Liquid absorption rate = total amount of added solution - weight of excess ionic water / total amount of resin
The experimental steps for determining the water absorption rate of super absorbent polymer are as follows: suck 1000 ml of sodium chloride solution into 3000 ml beaker with a straw, then weigh 4.3 g of resin with a tray balance, and add the resin into the beaker. After one and a half hours, filter the excess ionic water in the beaker repeatedly with 1300 black nylon bags until each ionic water is filtered clean. Finally, the relationship between water absorption rate and the whole time is obtained.
The experimental steps for determining the water retention performance of super absorbent polymer are as follows: suck 1300 ml of sodium chloride solution into a 4500 ml beaker with a straw, then weigh 5.3 g of resin with a tray balance and add it to the beaker. After 40 minutes, filter the excess ionic water in the beaker repeatedly with 3400 black nylon bags until each ionic water is filtered clean. Observe the change of the total weight of the solution in the beaker with time.
The experimental steps for determining the rheological properties of super absorbent polymer hydrogel are as follows: suck 3200 ml of sodium chloride solution into a 5000 ml beaker with a straw, then weigh 1.3 g of resin with a tray balance, and add the resin into the beaker. After 50 minutes, repeatedly filter the excess ionic water in the beaker with 3100 black nylon bags until each ionic water is filtered clean. Finally, the color change of hydrogel with time was observed.
Super absorbent polymer has been widely used in medical and health industries because of its strong water absorption and water retention. Understanding the performance measurement experiment of SAP powder will help people better understand this kind of new materials.
