The main components of hot melt glue include polymers, tackifying resins, softeners and antioxidants. Each component has different degrees of influence on the performance of hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive.
The polymers used in hot melt glue for disposable sanitary products are thermoplastic elastomers such as styrene butadiene styrene block copolymer (SBS) and styrene isoprene styrene block copolymer (SIS). Thermoplastic elastomer is the fundamental component that gives it cohesion and glue viscosity. SBS has good fluidity and wide hardness range; SIS has good fluidity, low hardness, flexibility and strong tensile property; SBS and SIS copolymers can be divided into linear block copolymers and star block copolymers. Among them, star structure has better heat resistance and lower viscosity than linear structure.
Tackifying resin gives hot melt glue viscosity and adhesion. Tackifying resins include rosin resin, terpene resin, hydrogenated petroleum resin, etc. Rosin resins can be divided into ordinary rosin, hydrogenated rosin, polymerized rosin and modified rosin; Terpene resin α- Terpene polymerization is mainly terpene resin. Rosin resin and terpene resin have the characteristics of low price, sufficient supply and strong adhesion, but they have heavy taste, deep color and poor thermal stability. Hydrogenated petroleum resin is a product of petroleum deep processing, which is mainly divided into C5 hydrogenated petroleum resin, C9 hydrogenated petroleum resin and C5/C9 copolymerized hydrogenated petroleum resin. Hydrogenated petroleum resin has the characteristics of light taste, light color, good thermal stability, but high price.
The main function of softener is to reduce the melting viscosity of hot melt glue, improve the wettability and coating ability of glue liquid to the adherend, improve its initial viscosity and reduce the cost of adhesive. In addition, the softener can also moderately improve the flexibility and cold resistance of the reinforced adhesive. Commonly used softeners include naphthenic oil, white oil, phthalates, low molecular weight polybutadiene, etc., among which naphthenic oil has the best effect.
The main function of antioxidants is to avoid the oxidative deterioration of polymers and tackifying resins at high temperatures. The commonly used antioxidant of hot melt glue is tetramethyl - β- (3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate] pentaerythritol ester, which is an efficient hindered phenol antioxidant.
Hot melt glue is an adhesive based on thermoplastic polymers, which is widely used in the field of disposable sanitary products. Understanding the main components of hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive is conducive to the better application of this material.
