Recently, BASF announced that it is integrating and accelerating its extensive cross company projects by setting up a new project department, so as to achieve the goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 25% compared with 2018 and zero global carbon dioxide emissions by 2050. The apartment called “ Net zero accelerator “ will focus on implementing and accelerating projects related to low-carbon production technology, circular economy and renewable energy. The new project department is located in Ludwigshafen, Germany. It will take effect from January 1, 2022 and initially have about 80 employees.

At the same time, all operating departments will continue to carry out projects in various departments to jointly achieve BASF's emission reduction targets.

Ongoing cross-company projects managed by the division include BASF's activities in the field of circular economy, such as the BASF "chemical cycle" project and zero-carbon technologies including methane cracking. Renewable energy is another area in which BASF has pursued several projects and has signed specific agreements in recent months. For example, BASF signed a contract with Vattenfall to acquire a 49.5% stake in the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm with a total installed capacity of 1.5 GW, and BASF entered into a 25-year fixed-price corporate power purchase agreement with Ørsted for the offtake of its planned Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. 186 MW of output power.
